Municipal Drinking Water / Wet-Tap Monitoring · Whittier, California

City of Whittier, CA

From one trial to four booster stations: Whittier reports more than two years of MP5 experience, no calibrations since installation, and reagent-free chlorine monitoring that keeps operator visits short.

Set it. Forget it. Trust it.

What the source reports

  • check_circleFour booster-station installations, with no calibrations reported since each installation; operators continue Monday reference checks.
  • check_circleThe largest reported offset at the challenging sleeved-pipe installation was 0.04 ppm.
  • check_circleNo monthly reagent or buffer change-outs. Wear-part alerts help the team plan routine service.

Less routine work. More confidence at every stop.

Whittier’s booster stations are quick-stop sites. Operators often visit for less than five minutes to record the chlorine residual. Reagents and buffer solutions added monthly checks and replacements, while parts for one aging colorimetric analyzer were becoming difficult to find.

After a Halogen presentation at the City of Lakewood, the team trialed an MP5 wet-tap sensor at a booster station with an existing 2-inch tap. That first installation led to three more. Direct in-pipe monitoring eliminated the need for a sample line and drain at these installations.

“We're extremely happy with it. Just set it and forget it. Throw it in there and let it do its thing.”

Built into the route, not added to the workload.

The account describes more than two years of service experience at stations boosting roughly 200–900 gpm. Operators check readings every Monday and report no calibrations since installation. With groundwater hardness around 250 mg/L, the team describes a quick wipe during wear-part replacement. Display alerts count down to replacement, helping operators plan maintenance.

One installation presented an unexpected challenge: a sleeved pipe left the sensor barely reaching into the flow. The team reports a largest observed offset of 0.04 ppm at that site. This is Whittier’s field observation under its operating conditions.

Responsive support. Room to grow.

“With any kind of small issue we've had, you guys were quick to respond and help us correct it. So everything's been great. We're definitely happy with this product.”

David Ramirez — City of Whittier

Whittier is considering additional sensors at its pumping plant, including an effluent line and a 60-inch influent main blending three well sources. These are future plans. The team has also recommended Halogen to neighboring agencies.
