Ballast Water TRO Sensor
Accurate at Virtually Any Pressure Or Any Flow
The patented technology in the Halogen® TRO Amperometric Chlorine Sensor allows for Direct Pipe Installations (also called a “Wet Tap installation’) which means there is no need for complicated additional piping for flow-control or waste lines. It is unaffected by flow changes ranging from 0 to 4 meters per second, and tolerates pressures from -.7 bar (-10.15 psi) to 10 bar (147 psi). The TRO sensor contains the only pH sensor on the market that can survive both high and negative pressures within a ballast pipe.
Measure Five Parameters in One Online TRO Sensor
Technologies to simplify Monitoring
The TRO Sensor features the following tech:
SensiCLĒNE™ beads continuously clean the electrodes. Rapid Response ORP™ won’t get poisoned or damaged if allowed to dry out. The HiResTRO™ impeller enables Direct Pipe Insertion. HaloSAL™ provides accurate readings in any salinity. DryGLAS™ protects the pH sensor if the ballast pipe is emptied.
Stable Calibrations = No Guessing
With a calibration that lasts months and the ability to be directly installed in ballast transfer pipes, the Halogen® TRO™ provides a clear picture of what’s in the water–in the actual pipe at that exact moment rather than via an old-technology sensor on a sampling board at the end of a complicated flow-control line 10 minutes later.
5 Parameters in 1 Online Unit
The Halogen Display Unit (HDU) can be placed hundreds of feet away from the sensor. The HDU is powered via a PLC or another power source and while the data is displayed live on the screen, the display can also communicate these parameters to a SCADA system using either the Modbus RTU protocol or a 4-20ma analog signal.
The MP5™ ROI Calc: Lower Operating Cost + Minimal Maintenance + Zero Water Waste
Old Technology Sensors Drain Budgets
DPD-based systems require a host of flow-control and waste-return lines that must be designed, installed, and maintained. In addition to replacing membranes and reagent, calibrations are a full-time job for maintenance teams. The Halogen® TRO Sensor needs no flow control, no membrane, no reagent, and requires very little maintenance.
Halogen® Certifications Listing
Recognized by the US Coast Guard, The Korean Register, and the IMO, the Halogen® TRO™ sensor is allowed for direct replacement of a DPD sensor with no required recertification. Halogen also has IECEx certification for use in explosive environments. Using a Halogen TRO Sensor instead of a DPD in a BWMS system reduces complexity and maintenance while providing flexibility and accuracy. (See More)

Add Accuracy and Simplicity While Lowering Your Maintenance Costs
Whether building a BWMS system from scratch or upgrading and refitting an existing system, engineers appreciate the flexibility they gain when they can design around the requirements of the operator rather than around the limitations of the sensor. See what a Halogen TRO can do for a monitoring process.
An Ideal Alternative to DPD Sensors
BWMS designers and operators can now reduce operating costs and lower maintenance with this attractive alternative to DPD systems.
The Halogen™ TRO™ Saves Time and Money
With patented tech created to solve the environmental impact issues plaguing the maritime shipping industry, Halogen’s TRO sensors remove the cost of membranes and reagents from the budget. But that’s only the beginning. Hundreds of man-hours per month can be repurposed thanks to stable calibrations and minimal maintenance.
