Why is MP5 The Only NSF61 Certified Chlorine Sensor
For water utilities, municipalities, and consumers, NSF61 certification provides assurance that a product is safe for drinking water applications. In many regions of the U.S., compliance with NSF61 is a legal requirement under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), particularly for public water systems. Products lacking this certification may not be approved for use in potable water infrastructure, limiting their marketability and application.
NSF61 Certification is only part of the story. Certification allows the sensor to be installed directly in a drinking water pipe. This eliminates a waste stream of 70,000 gallons or more per year of Non-Revenue Water (NRW). All other sensors require this wasteful practice just to measure chlorine. The sensor also complies with Regulation 31 in the United Kingdom. Other sensors use chemical reagents or are so sensitive to changes in pressure or flow that installation in a pipe is not practical or even possible making NSF61 a moot point. While some installations use MP5 installed in a side stream, that water can legally be returned to the drinking water process. MP5:
is flow independent so changes in flow or pressure have little to no effect, even zero flow in an immersion installation in a tank or clear well.
It is the only system that can be installed in the distribution system and remotely connectd to the cloud with battery operation.
Unlike reagent systems it does not use reagents or membranes and is very low maintenance.
It measures five parameters, not just chlorine.
