Halogen Systems Inc. Receives DNV GL Type-Approval for Its TRO Sensor
January 20, 2021 – Recently Halogen Systems Inc has gained more recognition and significant approvals on its Amperometric DPI (direct pipe insertion) TRO (total residual oxidant) sensor. They have just been awarded DNV GL type approval on their ballast water management system (BWMS) sensor that measures TRO in ballast water for applications of 0.2 PSU salinity and higher.
President of Halogen Systems, Michael Silveri, relays: “There is now a low maintenance alternative to DPD instruments for BWMS. Although we have delivered over 2,000 sensors for BWMS, DNV GL-type approval on our Amperometric TRO sensor for hazardous or non-hazardous locations is excellent news. We have worked hard to offer shipowners a simple-to-install, reliable, low-maintenance, DPI TRO sensor. The sensor performance has already been evaluated by the Alliance for Coastal Technologies (www.act-us.info/evaluations.php). Our sensor is not affected by flow changes, is self-cleaning, and is covered by 11 patents worldwide.”
Commenting on Halogen Systems’ unique DPI TRO sensor, Kevin Reynolds of OneTank states: “We have done extensive testing of this unit and found it to be a robust marine grade field device. We like that the unit mounts right into the ballast water pipe. This avoids sample tubes, sample pumps, and reagents. Looking forward to seeing this on many marine vessels and ballast water treatment systems.”
Steffen Schloericke – the Chief Technician of RWO/Veolia relayed: “Veolia’s RWO unit received its IMO final approval for its ballast water treatment system using Halogen’s Amperometric TRO sensor. We are pleased with the sensors’ operation, reliability, and performance.”
“BWMS designers should look closely at the Halogen TRO sensor. There are lower installation and maintenance costs, and it is easier to configure with far fewer parts. Its accuracy is the same level as the DPD method.” Said Cheon-Il, Kang / Director (TOMA) for Shin Woo E&T Co Ltd “To comply with the SDL (system design limitation) IMO requires measurement and recording the TRO, salinity, and temperature. Halogen Systems TRO sensor measures it all.”
Jaebin Yi, the Assistant Manager of the BWMS Team for AQUASTAR Co Ltd says: “As a technical engineer for AQUASTAR I would like to congratulate the Halogen Systems team on their DNV GL type approval. We are impressed with the sensor reliability, simplicity, and low operational cost (no reagents). We look forward to using it in our ballast water system.”
According to Silveri, “The cost of our EX-Type sensor can be half the cost of a DPD Instrument. On top of that, no reagents are needed, another substantial cost savings.”
