Orange County’s Water System & Challenges

Orange County Utilities relies on groundwater from the Floridan Aquifer, providing safe drinking water to thousands of residents. In August 2021, the county launched a pilot program to test Halogen’s MP5 multiparameter sensors

Challenges before MP5 Implementation:

Manual grab sampling required frequent truck rolls, increasing labor costs.

Power limitations at monitoring sites made real-time monitoring difficult.

Water quality inconsistencies due to limited data points and manual intervention.

Implementing the Halogen MP5 Sensor

First Trial – East System (Dec 2021)

Installed in a challenging location

No acid cleaning required after one year of operation

Power supplied via marine batteries, later optimized for solar power

First Trial – East System (Dec 2021)

West System (March & July 2022)

Installed two additional sensors

South West System (August 2022)

Two more sensors deployed

MP5 sensors accurately monitored chlorine,

pH, and temperature across different sites
